Let me be clear on the outset: this is not a place I'd go on a regular basis, but it is a place I'd take business associates or clients to. Do not take your kids here, they will most certainly hate you for it. The ambiance is kind of schizophrenic. As you enter from main street, it looks like a cramped bar, but then you notice off to the right there is additional seating, and as you walk through that threshold, suddenly its almost cathedral-like in its spaciousness . Our server was a fine gentleman that knew his stuff, and we dined on some very tasty fare washed down with a pleasant wine he recommended. On pleasant days, there is rooftop seating, as well as patio seating along 5th street for when you want a little traffic noise and exhaust to give your dishes that little bit of "je ne sais quoi". Although it looks like I gave it 4 stars, it's realy 3.75 because honestly, I'd give it more stars if it didn't reek so much like fish.

Manchego recently changed format. It is now a 'Mexican' restaurant. The tapas concept was just too much too soon, I guess. I really, really want to give Manchego more stars because, as I said in my initial review, Rapid City needs more dining options that don't center around ground beef of bison steak. I want Manchego to succeed, but I have to be honest in my assessment. As before, upon entering Manchego one is immediately smacked in the face by SPACE. The dining room is just too big, the ceiling just too tall. So much volume destroys any sense of coziness or intimacy. Imagine trying to eat a meal in the middle of an empty Sam's Club. There has to be a way to turn that space into an asset... Things began badly when the hostess greeted us with a disinterested scowl. After we were seated, the waitstaff (we counted at least four servers and two hostesses) actively avoided eye contact with us for almost ten minutes. This surprised us, as the staff outnumbered the occupied tables two to one. Our entrees, the beef enchiladas and the chimichanga verde, were served quickly, and with very respectable presentation. Unfortunately, they did not taste as well as they looked. The enchiladas had an adequate flavor profile, with straightforward notes of cheese, onion, and tortilla, but they lacked heat (an unfortunate and typical situation common to Americanized mexican restaurants in South Dakota) and were diminished by an over-thinned sauce. The chimichanga verde (inexplicably dressed in red sauce) was a muddled mess of, again, watery sauce and flavorless meat. Still, it wasn't all bad. Our waitress, once she showed up, was very friendly and was suitably attentive. The hostess warmed up towards the end of the meal; she engaged us in conversation, and I think I even saw a smile cross her face. So, the food needs fine-tuning, and the staff need some instruction in initial customer interaction. Manchego can do better, and I think it will get better.

3.5 is what I'd really like to give. Service 4, food 3.5 Menu choices are a bit odd for a tapas place (not small, not finger food) though what is prepared is pretty good. I think they need to organize the menu better (physically and selection-wise) to really build clientele. That said, if you're tired of pub food this is a nice option. Fancy inside; casual outside. Service was very attentive.

so you pay for ambiance and tap water from a glass bottle? The lamb had little flavor and a small portion for the price, Outback Steak House serves better lamb! the gazpacho was amazing ill give them that. The flat bread pizza I ordered was horrible, dry, cold, and for two adults to "share" was pathetic for the price. The burger was plain and normal, almost like they bought the bread from Family Thrift... nothing special.. the patio was amazing for dinning and the staff was great.. we went during the day and it was empty. The place has potential but the menu has to change its boring, bland, and small for people who want to eat when they drink!

Tried the paella and ceviche, the ceviche had nice fresh flavors, loved the fresh scallops and spice- next time would share the portion as it is so acidic though. The paella, however, had very muddled flavors like they used too much tomato paste, also did not seem to have alot of true saffron as the dish was overwelmingly red with no hint of saffron yellow to it, wont bother getting again. I enjoyed their wine and atmosphere, will go back to see what else is good.

I bought my sister a gift card from here this past Tuesday. I asked that she receive it by Friday so that she could have it for her birthday. Well she didn't receive it by Friday and so I gave them a call. The waitress that I spoke with over the phone said that the note on the gift card said not to SEND IT OUT until Friday (my sister's birthday) which didn't make any sense. She was very apologetic and told me that she would call me back to see what she could do. This waitress was incredible. She actually went to the post office to stop delivery on the gift card sent out and drove to my sister's house to hand deliver the gift card herself. The first drive out my sister wasn't home and she didn't want to just leave it so she made a SECOND trip out to make sure that she had it in hand. I so appreciated it and so did my sister! She used the gift card that very same night and was 100% satisfied with everything.

We recently dined at this restaurant and what a plus for Rapid City, South Dakota! Having traveled to southern Spain a number of times, I was totally impressed with the menu, the owner Pete, and the perky, very friendly waitress Erica. Unfortunately we did not have dinner, only a light lunch but we managed to chow down Patatas Bravas, Caldo Verde, and Tortilla Espanola, along with delicious crusty bread topped with the finest olive oil. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with its chic contemporary decor. We were also totally impressed with the upstairs outdoor deck which we understand will have an herb garden. and will be equipped with outdoor heaters. There is also a cozy area between the main dining area and the outdoor deck where you can host an intimate dinner party. Not being a "Rapid" resident (from Los Angeles), this restaurant was a total surprise and was thrilled my daughter (Rapid resident) decided to take us there. Thanks Pete for spending some time at our table - we wish you much luck and success.

Tapas in South Dakota?! I felt like that old Pace Picante ad about the fellas from New York City lol! But it smelled so good I had to try it. Luckily, I went with my instincts. After a bit of a walk from teh hotel. i was looking for a leisurely bite to eat. I had the scallops and the artichoke salad along with a glass of moscato. Perfectly cooked scallops (read, still transluscent at the center as they should be) floating atop a creamy champagne sauce. Accompanied by the grilled artichokes and tomatoes, topped with marinated red onions. Each flavor came through wonderfully, and I could mix and match to create new taste sensations! I see that others have noted their prices as a downside. True, they don't serve cheap eats. But tapas are meant to be shared. A little something to nibble on while you have a drink and some great conversation. And I found the prices to be fair when split among friends. And given the quality, I'd happily pay it again! Thanks for being the perfect end to my stay in Rapid City! Can't wait to come back!

Zero ambiance, it is very austere. This was our first and last visit. I ordered a chicken, mango, raspberry salad. The chicken was so dry that you could gag on it as well as flavorless. I had to ask for more dressing because you couldn't taste or see that any had come on it. I asked for a salt shaker as well because the chicken was so flavorless. The server was clumsy, inattentive and didn't know how to operate the coffee carafe and brought cold coffee. Needless to say we were disappointed. Some unknown water source was served from a used wine bottle.
